On the 27th of November, the IMA council has approved the page charges to publish a CNMNC report within the Canadian Mineralogist.
In the future, however, IMA wants to explore publishing options with the other major journals.
Walter Maresch is the council member who is going to be talking to the other editors.

Anders Solheim, 33rd IGC Secretary General, has informed the IMA secretariat on the preparation of the 33rd International Congress. There is still time before the publication of the second circular in Spring 2007 to submit any proposal relative to symposia, short courses, business meetings, etc. See the

Deadline : 15th of November. Reports already received at the IMA secretariat have been put on line within pages dedicated to the respective Commissions and Working Groups:

Creation of a past-Chair position in the CAM.

Dick Hagni who became chair of the CAM in 1990, is the first Past-Chair of CAM, following the Kobe General Meeting, when Dogan Paktunc was designated as the new chair of CAM.
Creation of three sub-commissions in the Commission on Applied Mineralogy (CAM).
A sub-commission on mineralogy applied to building materials is chaired by Maarten Broekmans, a research scientist from the Geological Survey in Norway. The second one is entitled "sub-commission on cultural heritage and archaeological materials", and is chaired by Isabella Memmi, from the University of Siena. For further information see the
2006 annual report of the CAM. A third one was created few time after, on Advanced Ceramics and Glasses. The new subcommission is chaired by Hans-Joachim Kleebe.


The environmental received a new name during the Kobe business meeting of the group. It is now called the Working Group on Environmental Mineralogy and Geochemistry (WGEMG).
Desigantion of chairs: Tom Sato was named as a vice-chair, and John Jambor as the Secretary of the WGRMG.

IMA Communication Officer


Frances Wall is the first Communication Officer of IMA. She was designated by the IMA council.

Mineralogical Societies participating in Elements

The IMA secretariat was informed by Pierrette Tremblay, managing Editor of Elements, that three other mineralogical societies have now joined the Elements participating Societies :
the German Mineralogical Society (Deutsche Mineralogische Gesellschaft)
the Italian Society of Mineralogy and Petrology (Società Italiana di Mineralogia e Petrologia)
and the Mineralogical Society of Poland (Polskie Towarzystwo Mineralogiczne).

Other participating mineralogical societies, members of IMA, are
the Mineralogical Society of America,
the mineralogical association of Canada,
the Mineralogical Society of Great Britain and Ireland, and
the French Society of Mineralogy and Cristallography (Societié française de Minéralogie and Cristallographie).
