The IMA Medal From R.I. Gait, Royal Ontario Museum Nominations are now being sought for the 2008 IMA Medal Dead line: 1st April 2008 The annual IMA medal award was found in 2006, and the IMA medal presented to the IMA Council in Cambridge (see also 'latest news' of July 2007). Description of the award The IMA medal is awarded for excellence in mineralogical research and is to be considered as one of the pre-eminent awards in this discipline. The recipient is chosen for scientific eminence as represented primarily by scientific publications of outstanding original research in mineralogy. It will be a life-time achievement award. The recipient of the IMA Medal is required to present a lecture on a topic related to the award at the meeting of the Association at which the medal is presented. The lecture will be published in a suitable international journal of mineralogy, with the agreement of the IMA Medal Committee. Submitting nominations for the IMA Medal Nominators, either the individual member of a mineralogical society or group, or a National representative of a mineralogical society or group, must submit complete nomination packages by April 1. Any nomination not renewed after 2 years will not be considered further. The award shall be made without regard to nationality. Membership in a mineralogical society is not a necessary prerequisite to receive the award.
